Conference Theme
Music as Education: Multiculturalism, Learning and Cognitive Enhancement, and Advocacy
The main theme could be broken down into four further subtopics that focus on key aspects of the theme that speak most closely to the needs and aspirations of music education in the South Asia region.
PRESENTATION MODES
Please submit all abstracts using the following format. All abstracts must have a word count of 200-250 words.
Individual Paper
Presentations have a duration of maximum 20 Minutes followed by 10 Minutes of Q&A. While there is no prescribed format to be used during the presentation, it is recommended that these guidelines be followed if you are selected to present.
Presentations given in any language other than English must have English subtitles on screen or the audience must be provided handouts of an English translation of the contents of the presentation. Although the use of an on-the-spot translator is allowed, the 20 minute presentation time must be adhered to strictly.
Panel
A panel session extends to 90 minutes with three to four papers that are related by a common thread. Please note that apart from Individual abstracts for each paper (250 words each), a shared abstract for the entire panel session of not more than 250 of words must also be submitted.
Workshops
A workshop is 60 minutes in duration with 45 minutes allocated to the activity itself. Prior notice should be given for any equipment or resources required to make necessary arrangements.
Posters
A poster is one of the best ways to start out at a conference if you are a first-time presenter. If your abstract is selected, you are advised to follow these guidelines for making your poster. You may use both text and images in your poster. In addition, you will have to prepare an “elevator pitch” for your poster.
Film Presentation
A film presentation has to be 20 minutes in length followed by 10 minutes livestream Q&A. The film’s context need not be in English but English subtitles must be made available.

- Activating advocacy: Engaging with music education policy-making and developing eco-musicological practices, accessibility and EDI (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) for the classroom and beyond.
- Navigating the complex relationships between Music and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
- Future-proofing and Sustainability: Education in and towards creative global economies and career paths.
- Losing the Past in the Present: Locating and translating traditional practices in the digital age.
